REDBY C.A V NORTON & STOCKTON ANCIENTS
After last weeks dissapointing display, we were up against Norton again, hoping to build on our last result against them in the cup.
With one eye on the cup semi next week, Redby went with a line up representing players availability for that fixture, so Pattison partnered Martin in defence, & Thompson dropped in at right back.
A bright start by Redby saw Winlow have a early chance, & Gicquel causing the Nortons defence preoblems on our left wing, linking well with Alston.
Norton hit us with a sucker punch on 16 minutes, scoring from nothing, & we were 1-0 down.
We kept at our game, & Hargrave equalised five minutes later, which was well deserved, as he was working well. Norton were suffering with injuries, & thre three sub allocation was used in the opening 30 minutes, which we knew would cause them to tire in the second half.
Half Time:
Redby 1 - 1 Norton
We kept the same 11 for the opening 10 minutes, then Stoker came on for Winlow, & shortly after Knox came on for the struggling Alston who took a knock. A corner found Knox, who got a header in for Gicquel to make it 2-1 to Redby. We were looking the stronger team, with the fresh legs on, only to be nearly pegged back when a long ball foxed us, & but for a last ditch tackle by the excellent Martin, we would have been level doors.
Hubbard came into the fray, & Stoker then made it 3-1 with a well taken goal, which will give him plenty of confidence for our upcoming fixtures. Nichol wrapped things up shortly after, latching on to a cracking cross by Hubbard.
A much improved team performance, with some good performances all over the park, typified by m.o.m Slocombe, who once again covered every blade of grass.
Well done lads,
